How Much Water Should You Drink Every Day?
So how much water should you be drinking? This depends on your sex, height, weight, activity level and metabolism and will be different for everyone. I tend to try to drink about 50 ounces a day. I always recommend you do your research and ask your healthcare professional because drinking too much water can be dangerous.
Tips To Increase Water Intake
Invest in a Water Bottle
Find a water bottle that works for you! I purchased a 50 ounce pink (because its my favorite color) water bottle because I love the color and I do not have to keep filling it up. I also purchased some cute stickers to decorate the bottle. This way it is appealing to me and makes me want to use it. I found this Hydrapeak bottle at a Marshalls and it keeps my liquid cold for hours. You do not need to spend a ton of money on a great water bottle.
Some people just do not like the taste of plain water. So add some flavoring like fresh lemon, berries or mint. You can even freeze your fruit and use them as ice cubes. Find ways to jazz up your water so it is less boring.
Switch it up
Water can be boring and a great way to get more in is by drinking sparkling water. I usually drink one a day because it is flavored and the carbonation fills me up. This is a great alternative to soda because it is healthier and contains no calories.
Make a Schedule
Creating a schedule will make getting your water in for the day more manageable. It can be as simple as drinking an 8 ounce glass first thing in the morning and then setting mini goals throughout the day. Take a swig after each bathroom break is also a great way to get into a routine. There are even water bottles that have time marks so you can make it a goal to hit a certain mark by a certain time in the day.
Download an App
There are apps for just about everything! Find an app that works for you and start tracking with the app. Many will send you reminders throughout the day to take a drink. This is a great way to make sure you stay on track and maybe eventually you will no longer need the app to remind you.
When in Doubt, Drink a Glass
Often times when we feel hungry or have a headache we are dehydrated. So try drinking a glass of water and see how your body responds.
Make it a Competition
If you are competitive try finding someone who has the same goals as you and make it a competition. Create a goal, for example, pick the amount you need to drink each day and how many days you want to do it. See if you can stick to it and whoever wins or loses has to treat the other to something of your choice. Make sure it is healthy competition.
