1. Get to know your classmates
The people around you are going to be your best support system and like family throughout nursing school. You are all in the same boat and are experiencing the same fears and feelings. You are not alone. They also usually have valuable information that they are willing to share.
2. Stay Organized
Trust me when I say if you do not stay organized you will fall behind. Do not fall behind! It is very hard to try and catch up. The moment you get your schedule, copy it and also mark down important dates. I also look the day before to see what I need to do or where I need to be. It is overwhelming so take it day to day. It may seem daunting to have so much work ahead of you, but it’s easier to be prepared.
3. Ask Questions
You can never ask to many questions. If you have a question about something then chances another student has the same question. Do not be afraid to ask a question if you need clarification or are confused. Do not worry about looking stupid. Better to ask and be safe then proceed and fail.
4. Use Resources
My college has so many resources available to students. There are workshops for math, care plans, laboratory workshops, and studying. Use the resources available to you. You paid your college tuition and these resources are a part of that. They are invaluable to you as a student so take advantage of what your college is offering.
5. Be Excited
Your nursing journey has finally started. You have worked so hard to get to this point and you deserve to be excited about that. Be proud of all the hard work you have put in this far and enjoy the journey.
